Sangiam
Yarangsee was born on
November 15, 1970 in
Chiang Rai Province.
His work conveys the
impression of realistic
art in Impressionism
with large canvases
that convey the beauty
of landscapes in the
northern part of
Thailand. His unique
oil painting brushwork
makes people who see
his work want to see it
with their own eyes.
In his youth, he traveled from Chiang Rai to study at a vocational
college, the College of Fine Arts in Bangkok, which is a private
school famous for art. Later, he decided to take the entrance
exam and chose and was able to enter the Faculty of Fine Arts,
Chiang Mai University, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai
University, as he wanted.
Starting life with the intention of becoming an artist who presents
work that is true and beautiful from his impressions without
limits, with mountains, trees, flowers, grass, wind and sunlight, he
chose Doi Mae Salong in Chiang Rai Province as his residence for
more than ten years, working on art with determination, not
marketing because he did not think of himself as a merchant.
Never submitted a contest because he did not want any conditions
in life.
Sengiam Yarangsi has had many interesting exhibitions with very
large sizes and unique brushwork and colors that impressed
collectors who had to find a way to travel to Chiang Rai, his home
and gallery on a hill that made him move from Doi Mae Salong to
Tambon Nang Lae, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province because
he wanted to choose a school for his daughter, Chomfa Yarangsee,
who later became an artist and followed her father to paint in
various places in Thailand and had experience in organizing
exhibitions abroad.
Before he chose to travel, to paint with his daughter, following the
previous journey in various countries. On the school break in
2023, he and Chomfah traveled to paint along the Seine River in
France and interesting hot spots such as the Louvre Museum and
the Arc de Triomphe in France.
Last year, Chomfah Yarangsee passed the entrance exam for the
Faculty of Law, Chulalongkorn University.
With the intention to learn something new, to be a lawyer along
with painting she herself had many solo exhibitions, choosing to
study in Bangkok would mean she would be away from her family
for a while, while her father was still working on painting, which
he loved, and it was a way of telling the duration of the blooming
flowers of the season in a position where the artist wanted to
convey the beauty with the artist in his blood and conveying the
beauty in his determination to work in the past.

Please tell the history of your journey to become an artist so
that readers can get to know you.
SY.
I was born and raised in Chiang Rai Province. I had the
opportunity to study art at the Vocational College of Arts in
Bangkok, which is a private art school. But when I took the
entrance exam, I chose to study at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang
Mai University. I didn't like my experience in Bangkok, so I
intended to come back to study for a bachelor's degree in Chiang
Mai. Painting began with my love of watercolor painting, which
required me to look at the atmosphere, the reality in front of me,
and my own emotions to work towards achieving my goals. My
initial inspiration were mountains and rice fields. Chiang Rai has
a very charming view of high mountains. The most beautiful
garden in the North is Doi Mae Salong, which has a tea
plantation. I lived there to work on paintings for 13 years.
JY.
Please tell us about the process used in drawing, from the
beginning until the work is completed.
SY.
Watercolor painting has its limitations. When we want to
draw in a larger frame, oil painting seems more suitable. My work
is large-scale, and I can use many flower fields and mountains as
a background. The perspective comes from what we see with our
eyes and like first, and I intend to convey the true beauty that we
see. The connection with the people in the area is also a part of
working happily. When the atmosphere and people are in
harmony and there is fun, the painting will come out as planned.
And I have proven myself that in 30 years of working, I will have
accumulated confidence. My contemporary work is realistic from
what I see with my eyes and the beauty of nature, which can
reflect the story of goodness, the beauty of the environment and
people who are interested in taking care of the environment at
the same time.
Toy Arts refers to art that is in the form of toys or similar to toys,
including the design, creation and production of toys that are not
mainly intended to be played with, but focus on beauty, aesthetics
and artistic expression. Toys of this type are often designed by
artists or designers who use their creativity to combine art with
toy objects to create unique and valuable works of art.
Transforming the creations from childhood cartoons, from
studying and exchanging with popular works, influenced by AI
technology from China and Japan, which are ready to create
robots from factories to meet the needs of new collectors.
Toy Arts is not just toys, but rather the combination of toys with
art to create aesthetic value and expression that is different from
general toys.
JY.
What is your perspective on contemporary art, such as Toy
Arts, which is a popular work, both sculpture and painting?
SY.
Paintings from nature can be admired for a long time. I have
a daughter who has loved drawing since she was a child. We
understand that some things will replace others in time. I am not
against it. Toy Arts can make money with a good price. The era
also makes contemporary art change according to technology and
popularity. New artists open the door wide to accept changes. But
from my perspective, this trend will not last long. It changes
quickly like the coming and there is a tendency to develop into
other things.
JY.
I have seen you often work with your daughter since she was
a child. And traveled all over Thailand, such as Phuket and Phang
Nga provinces, and China. The last time last year, you took her to
paint along the Seine River in France.
SY.
Because I couldn't find a school for my daughter to attend, I
moved back from Doi Mae Salong to live in Mae Chedi sub
-district, Mueang district, Chiang Rai. There is a house that is a
studio and gallery. This year, my daughter chose to study law and
passed the entrance exam to the Faculty of Law, Chulalongkorn
University. She did not choose to study art. And I found that
studying, choosing what I like can create meaning in life and
create value for oneself and society as well.
